On June 8, hosted by Shanghai Key Laboratory of Mental Health and Crisis Intervention and the School of Psychology and Cognitive Science of ECNU, the opening ceremony Shanghai Key Laboratory of Mental Health and Crisis Intervention and Yangtze River Delta Summit Forum on Mental Health was held at ECNU’s Zhongbei campus.
Experts of Shanghai Key Laboratory of Mental Health and Crisis Intervention attended the ceremony along with more than 150 experts, scholars, teachers and students who participated as well. The key officials at the ceremony included Lu Lin, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Peking University Sixth Hospital; Wang Aifen, Chairman of Shanghai Disabled Persons’ Federation; Zhang Hao, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Health Commission; Ping Hui, Inspector-general of Shanghai Education Commission; Weng Wenlei, Vice Chairman of Shanghai Women’s Federation; Sang Biao, Dean of Shanghai Academy of Educational Sciences; Zhong Dongting, Chief of Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality; Sun Zhenrong, Vice President of East China Normal University; and Zhou Xiaolin, Honorary Dean of the School of Psychology and Cognitive Science of ECNU.
Sun Zhenrong, Vice President of ECNU, pointed out in his speech that facing the pressing psychological needs created by the economic and social development of the city Shanghai and the whole of China, the Key Laboratory formed the following three characteristics: adhering to the orientation of interdisciplinary research, adopting the research approach of “production, research and application” serving the needs of the city and the country by taking the initiative to do so. Vice President Sun hoped that all members would make joint efforts to build the laboratory into an international first-class mental health research center under the leadership of Academician Lu Lin and Professor Zhou Xiaolin.
Zhong Dongting, Chief of Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, pointed out that in such a modern international metropolis as Shanghai, the promotion and improvement of citizens’ mental health has become an important part of people’s livelihood. He hoped that the Key Laboratory can closely follow public needs, conduct high-level research and promote the establishment of a “technology-supported” social psychological service system and psychological crisis intervention mechanism, so as to make its unique contribution to social governance.
In his speech, Academician Lu Lin, also President of Peking University Sixth Hospital, expressed his sincere congratulations on the opening of the Key Laboratory. He stated that ECNU shoulders the social responsibility in taking the lead to establish the Key Laboratory of Mental Health and Psychological Crisis in Shanghai, which caters to the national and social needs, and plays a significant role in the social governance and construction of a system according to social and psychological services at the national level.
Zhou Xiaolin, Honorary Dean of the School of Psychology and Cognitive Science of ECNU, explained the key work of the laboratory. In his opinion, the overall goal of the laboratory is to give full play to the interdisciplinary advantages in basic research and innovative achievements. This includes carrying out the fundamental work, but also combining with new technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence.
After the ceremony, at the Yangtze River Delta Summit Forum on Mental Health experts and scholars discussed a large number of topics ranging from “mental health research to better serve the society”, depression disorders, digital therapy to children's mental health during the pandemic and crisis response in major emergencies.
