The inauguration ceremony of the new school is held at Yifu Building.
The School of Data Science & Engineering (DaSE) was inaugurated on September 26. Prof. Zhou Aoying was appointed as director of the school.
ECNU president Chen Qun and Shao Zhiqing, vice director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, unveiled the plaque to open the school.
Zhou, who is also vice president of ECNU, briefed guests about the school’s basic concepts and development plan, highlighting the concept of application-driven innovation. According to him, the school newly sets up a bachelor’s degree major, Data Science and Engineering, which is the university's third undergraduate course related to computer, apart from the Computer Science and Technology, and Software Engineering.

Other officials attending the inauguration ceremony included Wu Zhengang, vice president of Ouyeel Shareholding Co. Ltd.; Zhang Yuyu, vice president of Shanghai Yangtze Computer Group Co. Ltd.; Prof. Zhou Xiaofang with the University of Queensland, Australia; and ECNU vice presidents Mei Bing and Li Zhibin. Cheng Jing, head of the Organization Department of ECNU, announced the names of leaders of the new school.
Zhou Aoying becomes the director of the school.
The ceremony, chaired by Mei Bing, was also attended by members of the leading group of DaSE, all faculty of the former Data Science & Engineering Institute, professionals from 27 domestic universities such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, and representatives from companies, such as Infosys, China Construction Bank, Trueland Group, Google, Fujitsu, Sinthonic, UCloud, Macrowing Software, HyperS, Inspur, Baoxin Software and Ctrip.
The companies have been supporting ECNU in making progress in big data science and many of them have reached agreements with the university to jointly open schools.
On behalf of ECNU Education Development Fund, Chen Qun conferred a donation certificate to Liu Hong, CEO of Infosys China.
Li Zhibin, ECNU vice president, and Liu exchanged MOUs on jointly opening schools.
The ECNU-Trueland Data Science and Wise Promotion Joint Lab was also unveiled at the ceremony.
