ECNU signed a contract with Taylor & Francis Group from the United Kingdom on November 15 to publish Statistical Theory and Related Fields, the first English magazine on the subject of statistics on the Chinese mainland.
It also marks a stride in the university’s move to advance internationalization of higher education.

Cooperated by ECNU and Chinese Association for Applied Statistics (CAAS), the magazine is schedule to make debut in 2017. It will have columns of research papers, guest overview and research news. Its editing board comprises noted scholars from home and abroad, two-thirds of whom are foreigners.
Three professors enjoying international fame will take the post of editors-in-chief. They are Shao Jun, professor with the University of Wisconsin of the United States and ECNU as well as an expert of China’s “Thousand Talents Plan”, which is also known as the “Recruitment Program of Global Experts”; Sun Dongchu, professor with ECNU and University of Missouri-Columbia who is also a “Thousand Talents Plan scholar”; and Li Danyu from the University of North Carolina.

In the big data era, statistics has been extensively applied in various fields of human activities, such as natural science, technology and engineering, economics, biomedicine and social sciences. Statistical methods play a vital role in making major breakthroughs in solving key problems.
Pu Xiaolong, CAAS vice director-general, hailed the new magazine has filled the void in the country, which yet to have an English-language magazine about statistics despite boasting a legion of outstanding experts in the field. The defect has impeded prompt publication and exchange of domestic independent research achievements, as well as promotion and application of latest international research results in China’s economic and social development.
According to ECNU, the magazine will carry original stories and set aside special columns and supplements about academic meetings and topic studies, aiming to keep domestic postdoctoral students and young scholars abreast of international academic forefront.
