ECNU president visits top French universities

ECNU president Chen Qun led a delegation on an official visit to Ecole Normale Superieure (ENS) and EMLYON Business School Paris campus between Jan. 16 and 17, at the invitation of the two leading universities based in the French capital.

In a meeting with Marc Mezard, director of ENS, on Jan. 16, Chen emphasized that ECNU greatly values its friendship with ENS and looks forward to exploring new forms of cooperation between the two parties. According to Chen, the Program of Sino-French Education for Research, or PRoSFER, has so far educated 46 students since it was launched by the two universities 15 years ago, and 48 ENS professors have visited ECNU during the past years.

Echoing Chen’s remarks, Mezard said PRoSFER has been a great success as well as an accelerator in bilateral cooperation between both parties, and promised further cooperation in all disciplines in the future.

The delegation attend the fifth session of the Joint Management Committee of the AEBS.

After the meeting, the ECNU delegation went to EMLYON Business School Paris campus to attend the fifth session of the Joint Management Committee of the Asia Europe Business SchoolAEBS), which was jointly created by EMLYON and ECNU in Shanghai.

Chen exchanged views with EMLYON hosts at the session, including Bruno Bonnell, board chairman; president Bernard Belletante; and vice president Tugrul Atamer, on how to build a distinctive and competitive AEBS.

Prof. He Jiaxun, AEBS head of the Chinese side, and Prof. Wang Hua, the school head of the French side, gave the conventioneers a brief introduction on the latest development of the school.

Topics discussed at the meeting included the school's development plan for 2017 and 2018, the building of a R&D center, employment of teaching faculty, and project establishment.

The delegation take part in a Chinese New Year party held by ECNU alumni who work and live in France.

On the following day, Chen held talks with Tugrul Atamer, elaborating on difficulties faced by AEBS and possible wider cooperation in the future between ECNU and EMLYON.

Before wrapping up the visit, the Shanghai delegation took part in a Chinese New Year party held by ECNU alumni who work and live in France, during which Chen sent best wishes to more than 20 alumni from ENS, Université de Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonneand Université Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV).
