ECNU's three faculties and eight subjects made top 500 chart in the 2017 QS World University Rankings released by Quacquarelli Symonds, an education company based in the U.K,. on March 8.
The university was ranked 27th on the Chinese mainland by subject.
The rankings named 1,127 universities from 74 countries for the study of 46 different subjects and five composite faculty areas, namely arts & humanities, engineering & technology, life sciences & medicine, natural sciences and social sciences & management.
The international league table put ECNU's art & humanities at 284th, natural sciences at 381st, and social sciences & management among top 500.
In terms of subjects, ECNU's education was the top performer, ranking among world's 150 best. Its English language & literature and modern linguistics made it to the world's top 250, and math and chemistry were included into top 300. Biology entered world's top 450 and geography top 200. Physics and astronomy made history this year by jumping into top 500.
Viewed as one of the most widely read of its kind, the survey made use of responses from 305,000 internationally prestigious academic experts on university faculty performances in the past five years, assessments on university graduate competitiveness from 194,000 world-famous employers, and analysis of 185 million citations data and 43 million academic papers from Scopus
