ECNU professor and Academician Chu Junhao won the 2017 Shanghai Educator of the Year award on April 10. The Shanghai Education TV Station broadcasted the award ceremony, at which 10 prominent figures from Shanghai's education circle were honored for their dedication to academics in China.

Distinguished teachers and people of all social circles devoted to advancing Shanghai's education reform, promote teachers' occupational ethics, and encourage the public to discover the pleasure in learning were present at the award ceremony.
Chu, now in his 70s, is well-known for disseminating scientific knowledge to the public. He believes that a scientist who does little to spread the importantance of science can not achieve anything great from their work. Undoubtedly, Academician Chu holds in high regard the inheritance of scientists' unswerving spirit to explore new knowledge and lay a foundation for generations to come.

He compiled the Energy and Environment chapter in the new edition of the I Wonder Why book series; about 100 essays in the chapter were written by him. In the past three years, he had delivered over 50 lectures in elementary and secondary schools in Shanghai and Jiangxi, Fujian and Hebei provinces, and was invited to give speeches on teaching ethics to young teachers from across the country. He also lectured on the frontier of physical electronics for ECNU undergraduates and is the leading lecturer of the Soaring Forum at the Information School of which the Wen Wei Po newspaper carried special reports on the forum in 2016 and 2018.
Academician Chu also received the first National Award for Excellence in Innovation, the Person Moving Shanghai, and First Shanghai Excellent People in Science Popularization. Due to his outstanding contributions to science popularization and social services, he became the only scientist from Shanghai to win the first National Award for Excellence in Innovation on May 27, 2017.
