President Chen Qun becomes new vice mayor of Shanghai


ON the morning of July 28, ECNU president Chen Qun was promoted to vice mayor of Shanghai during the 39th meeting of the 14th Standing Committee of Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress.

President Chen was born in Yixing City of Jiangsu Province in the spring of 1964. He later moved to Shanghai to further his studies, receiving a radio physics Ph.D in August 1991. That year, he began his career as an associate professor at ECNU’s Department of Physics.

He is the 7th president of ECNU to date, concurrently working as a physics instructor and supervisor for the Ph.D program. His former posts included director of ECNU’s Instrumental Analysis Center, assistant president and vice president of ECNU.

President Chen is also a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Standing Committee, and presides over the Shanghai Committee of the China Democratic League.
