China Health and Physical Education Curriculum Model opens to the public

May 21st, the “China Health and Physical Education Curriculum Model” opens a class exhibition for the public. The event was hosted by Professor Ji Liu's Base from the School of Physical Education and Health of ECNU. At the exhibition, the new direction of the reform and development in a new era of physical education curriculum was discussed in front of nearly 400 people. The audience members included P.E. teachers and research personnel from major primary and secondary schools in Shanghai .

Six teachers presented four high school P.E. classes and two junior high school P.E. classes revolving around three key subjects - sports load, physical exercise and motor skills - displaying some of the results of the “China Health and Physical Education Curriculum Model”.

The instructors used diverse physical exercises in order to comprehensively demonstrate a lively classroom atmosphere, with high intensity among students.

In all the 6 physical education classes, the on-site large-screen synchronous display of students' immediate heart rate was employed to visually show the physical intensity of the classes, which aroused enthusiasm of the many physical education teachers in the audience. It also proved to participants that, with the help of “China Health and Physical Education Curriculum Model”, the new curriculum ensures  that the physical load would not be difficult for P.E. students.

Since its launch, the new forms of P.E. curriculum at ECNU have not only improved the theoretical quality of teaching P.E. to students, but also enhanced their problem-solving abilities. The new results show that students have made great progress in these areas of their studies in higher education.

The audience comprises of nearly 400 teachers.

This open-class exhibition is of great significance since it has proved to solve the longstanding problem - how should physical education be taught? - in the context of the new era of physical education curriculum reform. Thus, the long-term confusion of the majority of front-line physical education teachers has been relieved temporarily.
