Focusing on the deployment of autonomous vehicles, the WIDC competition is divided into three series, including autonomous driving, information security and virtual testing.

In information security, ECNU_BOOM of the School of the Computer Science and Software Engineering, tied for the first place in the information security contest. The ECNU team -- Zhang Qiange, Cheng Wendong and Lin Yu -- stood out among 39 of participating teams from home and abroad.

The WIDC competition is divided into three series.

The preliminary round of the contest comprised two parts, basic theory and protocol cracking, which required contestants to decipher BUS data from the in-vehicle network of an autonomous car, and completely replay attacks in a short time-frame.

In addition to using wireless connections and reverse-execution instructions, the contestants were also required to break the autonmous car’s body-control protocols and thus implement its operations successfully by turning on lights, flashing lights, wipers and door latches, and controlling the vehicle’s interior equipment. The ECNU team finished 9th place in the preliminary and qualified for the final.

In the finals, the contestants' abilities in using technological applications to control different car models, placed in various scenarios under time contraints and high stress levels, were tested to find the fittest competitor.

The playoff format for this year’s WIDC had been newly introduced. According to the rules, if the contestants failed in the playoff rounds, they would have had 50% of their final score deducted, and vice versa. The new rules not only made the game more exciting but also put the contestants' courage and self-confidence to the ultimate test.
