Some universities in Shanghai have adopted facial recognition systems for freshman registration, Shanghai Morning Post reported Sunday.
East China Normal University (ECNU) used facial recognition as early as last semester. Now, the high technology is being widely implemented throughout the ECNU campus as a new semester starts on Sunday.
In addition to facial recognition systems being installed around campus, students can also register via the university's mini program on WeChat within 15 seconds.
Shanghai Jiao Tong University also implemented facial recognition system on Saturday, for the first time. Both Chinese and international students are able to finish registration on its digital platform decked with facial recognition. The new registration method has helped improve the efficiency of freshman registration.
