A ceremony for engaging Chen Jiangying, a renowned scholar and philosopher, as visiting professor at the School of Philosophy and Sociology of Shanxi University (SXU) was held in Taiyuan Oct 17.
At the ceremony, Yin Jie, the vice-president of SXU, on behalf of the university and the philosophy department, expressed a sincere welcome to Chen Jiaying for coming to SXU to give lectures, and expressed thanks to him for being a visiting professor.
Chen said at the ceremony that he was very happy to come to SXU to give lectures and was honored to be a visiting professor. He would work hard to push the discipline of philosophy at SXU to a new level.
After the ceremony, Chen made an academic report for present students and teachers.
Chen Jiaying, who was born in 1952, was admitted to the German major of the department of Western languages at Peking University in 1977. In May 1978, he was transferred to the university’s Institute of Foreign Philosophy to study philosophy. After graduation in 1981, he stayed at the school as a teacher. In November 1983, he went to the United States to study, obtaining a PhD from Pennsylvania State University. He then worked in Europe for a year. In May 1993, he returned to Peking University to teach. In 2002, he transferred to the philosophy department at Shanghai East China Normal University, where he was employed as a tenured professor and Zijiang scholar. In January 2008, he was transferred to the philosophy department at Capital Normal University in Beijing, where he was the professional director and senior professor of foreign philosophy. Chen is a renowned contemporary philosopher with a wide range of academic interests and outstanding theoretical achievements in various fields.
