ECNU hosts the launching ceremony of the photo album.
On March 24th, ECNU hosted the launching ceremony of The Late Qing Empire Through the Lens of A Swiss, an album of photos published by ECNU Press. Guests present at the ceremony included: Alexander Hoffet, Switzerland’s Consulate General based in Shanghai, Edwin Constable, Vice-President of the University of Basel, Zhu Qi, President of the Confucius Institute at the University of Basel, Ren Youqun, Vice President of ECNU and Vice Chairman of ECNU’s University Council, Wang Yan, Chairwoman of ECNU Press, and members of the book’s compilation and translation teams.
The photo album is published by ECNU Press.
In his address，Ren Youqun expressed his warm welcome to all the distinguished guests. Recalling the history of cooperation and exchange between the University of Basel and ECNU, he spoke highly of both sides’ efforts in establishing the Confucius Institute at the University of Basel, and commended the publication of this book. According to Ren, ECNU will continue to support the Confucius Institute’s aims to conduct international Chinese education, foster cultural exchanges, and establish cooperative relationships, thereby furthering and expanding contributions to the educational and cultural exchanges between Switzerland and China.
Edwin Constable said that the book was a new achievement for the Confucius Institute at the University of Basel in promoting collaboration between the two universities, and he expressed his hope to strengthen the relationship with ECNU and other universities in Shanghai.

Zhu Qi, President of the Confucius Institute at the University of Basel, provided a briefing on the institute’s major works and achievements since its founding, just one year ago. Wang Yan spoke about the causes for the book’s inception, and about the process of its publication.
After the ceremony, Edwin Constable was invited to give a speech entitled, “Sustainable Materials Chemistry - Dream or Reality,” at the ECNU Chemistry Department.
