Shanghai to Host ICME-14 in 2020

According to the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction (ICMI) of the International Mathematical Union (IMU), Shanghai will host ICME-14 in 2020.

ICMI posted an announcement on its official website that Shanghai had been announced as the official host city of ICME-14 in 2020. This marks China’s first hosting of the Congress since China’s delegation first participated in ICME in 1980.

The decision was made by the ICMI Executive Committee at their 2015 Annual Meeting, held from May 30 to June 2. Three bids were made to host ICME-14 in 2020: Sydney (Australia), Honolulu (USA) and Shanghai (China).

The International Congress on Mathematical Education (ICME) is held every four years under the jurisdiction of ICMI. The aim of the Congress is to examine the current state of and trends in mathematics research, and to discuss the practice of mathematics teaching at all levels. The Congress’s participants will include a broad spectrum of professionals, ranging from researchers in mathematics education, teacher trainers, and practicing teachers to mathematicians and others interested in mathematics education.
