1.When will the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics be held?

The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will be held from February 4 to February 20, 2022, followed by the Winter Paralympics from March 4 to 13.

2. Why is Beijing called “Dual Olympic City”?

Because Beijing is the first city in the world to host both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.

As the winning host for the 2022 Winter Games in 2015, Beijing became the first city in the world to host both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, which makes it the “Dual Olympic City”. 

3.Where will the 24th Winter Olympic Games be held?

Downtown Beijing, the capital's Yanqing District, and Zhangjiakou in neighboring Hebei Province.

The events of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games will take place in a combination of brand new structures and existing venues located in three main clusters -- downtown Beijing, the capital's Yanqing District, and Zhangjiakou in neighboring Hebei Province. The National Stadium, also known as “The Bird’s Nest”, will be the site of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

4. Which venue is the new venue for Beijing 2022?

National Speed Skating Oval

The National Speed Skating Oval is the only new venue for the Winter Olympics. Also known as the Ice Ribbon, it is a sustainable venue equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including innovative energy-conservation and low-carbon emission techniques. It will use the heat generated from ice-making to melt ice in the ice-melting cistern and maintain the ice surface. These techniques will help to save about 2 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. The skating hall of the Oval has an ice surface of about 12,000 square meters, making it the largest speed skating stadium in Asia.

5.How many sports are included in Beijing 2022?


There are currently 15 sports in the Winter Olympic Games. They are alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsleigh, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, luge, Nordic combined, short track speed skating, skeleton, ski jumping, snowboard and speed skating.

6. What is the name of the Beijing 2022 Mascot?

Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon

The mascot for Winter Olympics, Bing Dwen Dwen, is a panda wearing a full-body “shell” made out of ice, which resembles an astronaut suit- a tribute to embracing new technologies for a future with infinite possibilities. In Mandarin Chinese, “Bing” has several meanings, though the most common is ice. The word also symbolises purity and strength while “Dwen Dwen” means robust and lively, and also represents children. 

The Paralympic mascot choice of the lantern is seen as symbolic of harvest, warmth and light. In the name Shuey Rhon Rhon, Shuey is the Chinese word for snow and Rhon Rhon has the duel meaning of tolerance and integration. 

7. Which Chinese character has inspired the emblem of Beijing 2022?

The Beijing 2022 emblem combines traditional and modern elements of Chinese culture. Inspired by “冬”, the Chinese character for “winter”, the emblem resembles a skater at the top and a skier at the bottom. The flowing ribbon-like motif between them symbolises the host country’s rolling mountains, Olympic venues, ski pistes and skating rinks. The use of blue in the emblem represents dreams, the future and the purity of ice and snow, while red and yellow – the colours of China’s national flag – symbolise passion, youth and vitality. 

8.What is the name of the torch for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics?


The 2022 Olympic torch, named “Flying”, spirals upward to resemble two overlapping fluttering ribbons. The inner red ribbon evokes rising flames, with the outer one plated in silver to produce a striking contrast. As the torch turns, the whirling red line hidden in the crack seems to stretch endlessly, representing mankind's relentless pursuit of brightness, peace, excellence and the values promoted by the Olympic Movement.

9. What's the name of Beijing 2022 medals?

Tong Xin

The Beijing 2022 meerns, an element used on the torch of the 2008 Summer Games, snowflakes and ice scratches fill the dals – named “Tong Xin”, meaning “together as one” – are composed of five rings and a centre. Inspired by the exquisite Yubi, an ancient Chinese jade artifact dating back some 5,000 years, each medal features carvings of the Olympic rings at its heart on the front with the words XXIV Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 etched around them. “Together for a Shared Future” is the official motto of the 2022 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The motto represents the power of the Games to overcome global challenges as a community, with a shared future for humankind. It reflects the necessity for the world to work together towards a better tomorrow, especially given the difficulties faced throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. “Together for a Shared Future” demonstrates unity and a collective effort, embodying the core values and vision of the Olympic Movement, and the goal of pursuing world unity, peace and progress.
