On May 16th, ECNU Vice President Gu Hongliang met a delegation led by Mr. Michiel Sweers, Deputy Director-General for Enterprise & Innovation and Director of the Innovation & Knowledge Department, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy of the Netherlands. The meeting was attended by representatives from ECNU Faculty of Earth Sciences, State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research (SKLEC), Office of Science and Technology, and International Cooperation & Exchange Division.

Gu Hongliang extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He affirmed that ECNU strongly abides by its missions of Education, Civilization, Development and proactively engages in international cooperation and exchange to address global challenges in the new era. Given the decades of cooperation between ECNU and its counterparts in the Netherlands, ECNU looks forward to further collaboration between scientists from both sides for many shared successful years ahead.

Michiel Sweers responded positively and thanked ECNU. He warmly acknowledged the fruitful outcomes and rich history of ECNU’s cooperation with the Dutch counterparts and hoped that this visit would serve as an opportunity to promote deeper cooperation on climate change and water resources management between the two sides.

Visit to SKLEC’s labs
During the meeting, Prof. He Qing gave an introduction of SKLEC and the Sino-Dutch Joint Project. Prof. Hubrecht Johannis de Vriend and Zheng Bing Wang from Delft University of Technology joined online to present the ECNU-TU Delft collaboration story. In addition, the joint PhD students shared their experience of the co-supervised talent training. Both sides looked forward to further collaboration for addressing new challenges induced by climate change and human activities. After the meeting, the delegation paid a visit to SKLEC’s labs.
