Greetings to ECNUers at Major Cold

01/20/2022

The traditional Chinese calendar divides a year into 24 solar terms. Dahan, or Major Cold, which falls on January 20 this year, is the last solar term in winter and also the last solar term in the annual lunar calendar. In this period, snow, rain and icy cold weather exert a big influence on people's lives.

As the period of Dahan often coincides with the end of the lunar year, Chinese people usually prepare for the Chinese New Year after the solar term begins.

Dahan also marks the perfect time for winter sports such as skiing, ice skating, snowboarding and sledding in various region of China.

While welcoming the Chinese New Year and celebrating the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, make sure to wear a mask and avoid crowded indoor spaces. We send our wishes to all ECNUers to stay safe and stay well.
