This symposium was hosted online by the University of Haifa under the initiative of the Consulate General of Israel in Shanghai, and attended by teachers and students of the School of Ecology and Environmental Sciences of ECNU. At the opening of the symposium, Consul General Shapira, Director Zhou Yunxuan and Vice Provost Meir Hemmo of the University of Haifa each addressed the symposium. The Consul General pointed out that it was of great significance to hold such a symposium on Earth Day. As the source of scientific and technological innovation, colleges and universities are engaged in the most cutting-edge and important research in environmental pollution control and governance. It was a great pleasure for him to witness the two universities from China and Israel share their respective research achievements on environmental issues of common concern to the world, and he wished the symposium a great success.

The symposium in progress

In the subsequent symposium, a total of 11 teachers and students from the School of Ecology and Environmental Sciences of ECNU and more than a dozen academic colleagues from the University of Haifa exchanged views on how to use green and smart technology to improve the environment and carry out sustainable development. The report covered such research fields as degradable plastics, landfill systems, wastewater treatment, and coagulation-flocculation technology. At the scientific and technical level, both parties focused on discussions on emerging pollutant reduction, environmental health exposure, wastewater treatment energy optimization, low-carbon technology, and big data water environmental management, which have laid down the foundation for further scientific research cooperation in the future.
