Wang Yan, a Law School student of ECNU, won second runner-up at the 21st Century ·Coca-Cola Cup National English-Speaking Contest held in Guangzhou from October 5 to 8.
Instructed and accompanied by Zhao Chaoyong, an associate professor from the College English Department of the School of Foreign Languages, Wang triumphed over other contestants in the semifinal and advanced to the final as the top speaker.

Since its inception in 1996, the Coca-Cola Cup has become the most authoritative and influential of the English speech contests in China. Its popularity has turned the competition into an arena of international reputation for the country's most elite English speakers.
The assigned topics at the final was Seize the day. Wang distinguished herself in front of the judges with her speech on the nature of Seize the day, i.e. sticking to the true self. With fluent English and good reason, she convinced the judges with her own life stories .
The awarding ceremony
In recent years, ECNU's English Speaking competition team from the School of Foreign Languages has won a number of honors. Last year, Wang Yan outperformed other finalists to claim the title of FLTRP · ETIC Cup English Public Speaking Contest, becoming ECNU’s first gold medalist in a national English-speaking contest.
