No. 2 High School of ECNU to establish a new campus in Putuo

04/13/2020

On April 10, East China Normal University (ECNU) and the Putuo District Government of Shanghai signed an agreement to jointly establish “No. 2 High School of ECNU Putuo Campus”. The agreement marks a solid step forward in the strategic cooperation between the two parties which, by far, has ranged from pre-school to senior high school education.

Although construction of the new campus is to be completed within three years, the school will start to enroll students in Putuo District this year using the site of the former Zhenru Middle School as a transition.

No. 2 High School of ECNU was founded in Putuo District by ECNU in 1958 as the only experimental and demonstrative high school in Shanghai directly under the Ministry of Education. The founding of the Putuo Campus shows the wishes of both parties to continue the time-honored cooperation. It also meets the expectation of the Putuo people for a good school.

The Putuo Campus is one of the four campuses of No. 2 High School of ECNU, including the Pudong Zhangjiang Campus (2000), Minhang Zizhu Campus (2012), and Baoshan Campus (2020). And as such, it will be managed uniformly as other campuses.

The relation between ECNU and the Putuo District has long existed. As early as 1929, the Great China University, one of the main predecessors of ECNU, was founded on a piece of purchased land beside the then Zhongshan Road, which has evolved into today’s Zhongshanbei campus. Shortly after its founding in 1951, ECNU joined hands with the Putuo District to establish a primary school and a kindergarten. In recent years, they also worked together to found the No. 4 Middle School Affiliated to ECNU and the Experimental School of Foreign Languages Affiliated to ECNU. Meanwhile, they have also cooperated closely in cultivating cadre teaches, and promoting reform in education and teaching, and the informatization of education.
