On the morning of August 12th, the opening ceremony for the third ECNU MATH summer camp for middle school students was held alongside the Liwa River at ECNU. This event was co-sponsored by the School of Mathematical Sciences at ECNU, the Shanghai Key Mathematics and Practice Key Laboratory, and the International Mathematical Olympiad Research Center of ECNU.
Following the pattern of previous reports titled Mathematics and Philosophy, Mathematics and Music, Mathematics and Literature and Mathematics and Military, this year the theme of Mathematics and Culture is to be launched in hopes that it will enlighten the trainees on the intertwining aspects of mathematics and culture. Topics on big data and artificial intelligence, challenging mathematical problem-solving methods, and the fascinating history of mathematics are to be discussed at the camp session.
This summer camp is led by professors from the School of Mathematical Sciences of East China Normal University, and the members of the special experts of the International Mathematical Olympiad Research Center of East China Normal University. All of the attendees will master the basic methods of mathematics and improve their mathematical abstraction ability, while being introduced to the cultural value of rational mathematical civilization with the rigor and precision of mathematical truth. In addition, they will learn about the improvement of mathematical modeling, the ability of logical reasoning by solving mathematical problems in real life, the appreciation of the beauty of mathematics and the integration of mathematics and humanity.
