From June 29th to July 15th, the 4th Summer School for History Education Overseas of East China Normal University was held in Germany. This summer school program is jointly sponsored by the Department of History at ECNU, the Center for Comparative Studies in History at ECNU and the Department of Humanities and History at the University of Augsburg, Germany, and is one of the latest activities of the overseas station of the World History Department of ECNU.
More than 20 people from the East China Normal University, Northeast Normal University, and the first-line middle school teachers in Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui and other provinces of China attended the event. Mr. Fan Dingliang, from the Department of History, and Ms. Xu Jiling, from College of Teacher Education, led the summer school, with Professor Meng Zhongjie, the head of the Department of History, assisting with the process.
The curriculum design of the summer school implements the principle of combining classroom teaching with live classroom teaching. The participants learned about the history education and teaching practices in middle schools in Germany by participating in expert lectures, academic exchanges, secondary school lectures, museum teaching, and in-depth discussion of some intriguing historical issues with scholars from German universities and middle school teachers.
