4 ECNU projects win Shanghai top science prizes

FOUR projects with ECNU as the leading developer won prizes of the 2016 Shanghai Science & Technology Award, the city’s top science award, at a high-profile ceremony held to honor distinguished scientists and research achievements on March 22.

A project, titled Research on Novel Multicomponent Reaction via Reactive Intermediates, accomplished by a research team led by Prof. Hu Wenhao with the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering of ECNU, shared the first prize in the category of natural science with seven other projects.

Novel reaction of organic chemistry is a strong tool for creating new substances. A multicomponent reaction could form multiple chemical bonds and is one of the most desirable green, atomic economic reactions.

The prize-winning project spells out the effectiveness, wide application and practicability of the strategy of discovering novel reactions via reactive intermediates, providing a new method for innovative drug research.

The other three prizewinners from ECNU were projects by the State Key Lab of Estuarine and Coastal Research, School of Computer Science & Software Engineering, and School of Finance and Statistics.
