The Minhang campus of ECNU, a subvenue of the National Juvenile Summer Science Camp at Universities, welcomed 190 excellent senior high school students from around the country, including Hong Kong and Macao, for a seven-day journey of scientific exploration that started on July 14.
The campers participate in many activities.
During the ECNU camp themed “Understanding Science and Fostering Passion”, the participants were grouped into seven, based on disciplines, namely chemistry, Earth and space, physics, microbiology, biochemistry, environmental science and social science.
Teachers showed the campers around top State key labs, who were free to raise questions, make assumptions and do experiments during the visits. Meanwhile, Cao Zhenfu, dean of ECNU School of Encryption and Internet Safety and a winner of China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists, and Prof. Cui Lijuan with the School of Psychology and Cognitive Science gave lectures to the campers. Other activities included a visit to the university history museum and watching dramas.
The campers do various scientific experiments during the 7-day camp.
The National Juvenile Summer Science Camp at Universities, launched in 2012 by the China Association for Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education, aims to encourage middle school students to approach, understand and get involved in science and to broaden their minds and improve their practice techniques.
ECNU, as a subvenue of the camp, has received 1,020 students led by 102 teachers from provinces and regions of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in the past four years.
Prestigious scholars and experts provide wonderful speeches and lectures for the participants.
In Shanghai, one of the host cities this year, the camp opened simultaneously in five universities on July 13 and last until July 19, with Shanghai Association for Science and Technology, Shanghai Education Commission and China State Shipbuilding Corp. Shanghai company as sponsors.

A total of 950 senior high school students, led by 95 teachers, from 29 provinces and regions joined in the summer camp at Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Tongji University, ECNU and East China University of Science and Technology.
