From March 26 to April 1, 2016 ECNU President Chen Qun visited Egypt and Israel. He attended the Exhibition of Chinese Higher Education in Egypt, the China-Egypt University Presidents Forum, and the Inaugural Forum of Presidents of Israel-China Higher Education Institutions during this visit.
Chinese Higher Education Exhibition in Egypt and the China-Egypt University Presidents Forum was held at Cairo University on March 26. Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong attended and addressed the closing ceremony of the China-Egypt University Presidents Forum themed by the “'Belt and Road' and China-Egypt People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges”.

Before the Forum, Liu Yandong and the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Ashraf al-Shehhi, of Egypt jointly attended the foundation stone laying ceremony of the new Model Confucius Institute Building at Cairo University, and cut the ribbon for the Chinese Higher Education Exhibition. Liu Yandong said ECNU should take full advantage in the new teacher training to train more global Chinese language teachers at ECNU booth when visiting the Exhibition.

Chen delivers a speech at the Inaugural Forum of Presidents of Israel-China Higher Education Institutions.
During the Exhibition, the booth of ECNU attracted many Egyptian students and they expressed their wishes to study at ECNU. President Chen Qun warmly welcome them and made a special introduction of ECNU’s global Chinese language teacher training to these students and encouraged them to seize any opportunities to study at ECNU.
At the forum, Chen Qun shared his insights into future cooperation in education between the two countries in his keynote speech themed “Ancient Civilization and Its Modernization”. Held by the Chinese Ministry of Education, the Forum attracted leaders of 19 Chinese universities and 21 Egyptian Universities. Participants of the Forum exchanged constructive suggestions on how to promote Sino-Egypt communication and cooperation between the two in education.
On March 29, the Inaugural Forum of Presidents of Israel-China Higher Education Institutions was held in Jerusalem. Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong delivered a keynote speech at the forum. During the forum a number of educational and research agreements were signed, witnessed by Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong and Israeli Minister of Education Naftali Bennett. It included a Memorandum of Understanding by ECNU and Haifa University on establishing the ECNU- Haifa University Joint Research Institute for Transformation of Science and Technology. Chen Qun introduced the innovative methods for training talents of the Joint Research Institute in his speech themed “Sci-tech Innovation Practice under the Internationalization Vision” at the forum.
Chen also called on Yona Yahav, mayor of Haifa Israel, and visited Haifa Universities campus during his visit to Israel. Yahav sang high praise for the cooperation between ECNU and Haifa University. As the sister city of Shanghai, Haifa will, as always, support the construction of the ECNU- Haifa University Joint Research Institute for Transformation of Science and Technology, said Yahav.
