The opening ceremony of the program is held.
On the afternoon of March 6, the opening ceremony of the UNESCO-China (The Great Wall) Co-Sponsored Fellowships Program -- ECNU Advanced Training Program for Education Administrators and Teacher Educators was held at Zhongbei Campus.
Distinguished guests attending the ceremony included Eric Falt, Assistant Director-General for External Relations and Public Information. UNESCO Headquarters; Zhou Jiagui, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO; Genc Seiti, Director for Member States Relations and Partnership. UNESCO Headquarters; Zong Huawei, Deputy Chief of the Division of Science and Culture, Chinese National Commission for UNESCO; and Ren Youqun, Vice Chairman of University Council and Vice President of ECNU. The ceremony was hosted by Peng Liping, Director of the International Center for Teacher Education of ECNU.

On the ceremony, Ren Youqun, Eric Falt and Zhou Jiagui delivered speeches in succession to welcome the 35 new participants of the Program. In their speeches, they also introduced the background of the Program and hoped the participants would benefit from this program.
The Great Wall Fellowship Program is an important China-UNESCO cooperation program in the field of education. It is intended to provide support for the teaching talent cultivation in developing countries. In the academic year 2015-2016, the program includes 75 fellowships for advanced studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These fellowships are for the benefit of developing Member States in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean and certain countries in the Arab States and Europe.

The Fellowships, tenable has a selected number of Chinese universities, that will participate for a one year duration. These fellowships, which are in most cases to be conducted in English, are offered to senior advanced students wishing to pursue higher studies or intending to undertake individual research with periodic guidance from an assigned supervisor. In exceptional cases, candidates may be required to study the Chinese language before taking up research or study in their fields of interest.
ECNU is entrusted to be the host university for the UNESCO-China (The Great Wall) Co-Sponsored Fellowships Program -- ECNU Advanced Training Program for Education Administrators and Teacher Educators. The 35 participating students of this program are from 8 African Countries, namely, Cote d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Namibia, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Thirty-five participants of this program are from eight African countries.

Before the ceremony, Ren Youqun met Eric Falt and his colleges. Ren made a brief introduction of ECNU, especially the University’s cooperation with the ENS Group of France and AEICC. Falt introduced the main plan of his visit to China this time. Falt and his college will discuss with Shanghai Municipal Government about the issues related to the Conference of Secretary-Generals of the National Commission for UNESCO’s Members. The Conference will be held in June in Shanghai.
