A Joint Research Center for Translational Medicine was officially launched by ECNU and Fengxian District Central Hospital on March 21. This new facility is where scientists with the university and the hospital doctors work together to crack difficult and hard clinical treatments to help the sick.
The hospital said the establishment will utilize a combination of preclinical medicine research and clinical treatment by allowing biological research results to be used in clinical diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible. It also provides an opportunity for mutual development. The cooperation will give full play to the talents of both sides, making good use of their advantages, help boost talent cultivation and improve influences of both parties in the medical circle, the university and hospital said.
ECNU scientists and doctors of Fengxian District Central Hospital will work together at the center.
Prof. Cheng Yingsheng, President of Fengxian District Central Hospital, said the center will highlight and emphasize the prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. He was confident that it will help improve the hospital's capability of biological treatment of cancers, diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases, and technological innovation, and will enable the hospital to provide more efficient and economical personalized services for patients.
According to ECNU, the university's Life Science Research Institute will carry out various forms of cooperation with the hospital and hire clinical researchers from the hospital as part-time or associate professors in its graduate program and scientific research as well. They plan to foster three-five post doctorates each year and enroll around five graduates, who will be included in the list of the School of Graduates. Both parties will also exchange information on scientific research and submit scientific research project applications as a whole.
