A cartoon film telling the history of Kwang Hua University, a predecessor of ECNU, was issued in the first week of the new semester. The cartoon is the second of such work that the University’s News Office has created. In 2014, the News Office issued the cartoon film “Great China University”, the first cartoon film telling the history of a university in China. Great China University is another predecessor of ECNU.

Kwang Hua University was one of the most prestigious private universities in Shanghai during the Republic Period (1912-1949). In June 1925, 572 teachers and students left Saint John's University, a missionary college established by the United States in Shanghai, and founded Kwang Hua University to pursue the freedom of learning and democracy. Last year, ECNU held a series of activities to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Kwang Hua University’s existence.

“We want to tell the history of our university in a more relaxed way. The success of the first cartoon film about the Great China University encouraged us to make more creations of such work. We want to use this enjoyable cartoon film to inspire the young generation to understand the spirits of Kwang Hua, and to think more about their ideals and responsibilities,” said Xie Chao, Director of ECNU’s Publicity Department and the spokesman of ECNU.
