On the morning of January 16, Ren Youqun, ECNU’s Vice President and Vice Chairman of the University Council, met a delegation led by Prof. Fernando Reimers of Harvard Graduate School of Education. Connie Chung, Research Director of the school’s global education innovation program, Wang Yi, Board Director of Harvard Shanghai Center. Wei Liping, Project and Executive Director of the Harvard Shanghai Center, and Li Fei, Project Manager of the Harvard Shanghai Center were among the visitors.
Prof. Pang Weiguo, Deputy Head of the School of Psychology and Cognitive Science of ECNU, Yang Fuyi, Director of the International Affairs Department of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Yang Xiangdong, Zhao Jian, Head of the Department of Basic Education and Lifelong Education, held discussions with Prof. Reimers and his colleagues who accompanied him.
The delegation have a conversation with ECNU teachers.
Prof. Reimers has taught at Harvard University for 33 years. He has been subsidized by the Ford Foundation and serves as the director of the international education policy project of Harvard University. The two parties discussed cooperation potentials in establishing a global network for innovation education, publication and translation, scientific research, holding seminars and organizing teachers’ training.
Wang Yi introduced the Harvard Shanghai Center, which facilitated the visit of Prof. Reimers and Prof. Chung to ECNU. He said the center would help connect domestic universities and Harvard University for more successful cooperation.

In the afternoon, Prof. Reimers gave a lecture to ECNU staff and students alike. The lecture, which was about education innovation for the 21st century, attracted so many listeners that the hall was filled to capacity. Some students even stood through the whole lecture.
The Harvard Shanghai Center was put into operation on March 18, 2010. It was the largest overseas research center of Harvard University. The center was set up to facilitate exchange and cooperation between Harvard University and Chinese universities. In the past few years, Harvard and China have had extensive cooperation. According to William Kirby, chairman of Harvard China Foundation, Harvard and Chinese universities, researchers, government and various organizations have had constructive relations and in the future, exchanges between Harvard and China would be more frequent and effective.
