ECNU and Putuo District establish Cyber Space Safety Institute

ECNU and Putong District Government signed an agreement on deepening strategic cooperation and jointly established a cyber space safety research institute on December 18, 2015. Putuo District Party Chief Shi Xiaolin and ECNU University Council Chairman Tong Shijun unveiled the institute at the agreement-signing ceremony.

The agreement was signed by Tong Shijun and the Putuo District Governor Cheng Xiangmin. On the basis of a previously-signed framework agreement on strategic cooperation, this agreement focuses on the scientific and technological innovations, urban construction and education development. The district and the university will cooperate in the areas of information technologies, business administration, a scientific park, basic education, start-up incubation, and official training, according to the agreement.

The Cyber Space Safety Institute will serve as a research base as well as a service platform. On the aspect of research, it will gather a core research team on cyber space safety, build labs, carry out research on key technologies, and push ahead the development of cyber space safety. On the aspect of platform services, it will build a functional platform for cyber safety and security for Shanghai, and offer services including R&D, safety tests and assessments, along with consulting.

Academician He Jifeng, who is the current head of the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering at ECNU, will serve as President of the newly established institute. The institute is led by an administration commission. Fan Shaojun, Vice Governor of Putuo District, and Wang Rongming, Vice President of ECNU, serve as directors of the administration commission.
