The Center for Global Change and Ecological Forecasting at ECNU is established.
East China Normal University has set up the Center for Global Change and Ecological Forecasting (C-GCE) to meet the nation’s growing demand for science and technologies in the area of global changes, i.e. climate change, biological invasion, and land use change.
C-GCE will become part of the School of Ecology and Environmental Sciences.
Zhou Xuhui introduces the targets and plans of C-GCE.
The C-GCE was set up at the Daxia Ecology Forum, recently held at ECNU. ECNU President Chen Qun attended the opening ceremony and gave a congratulatory speech. Chen stressed that ECNU valued the earth sciences and ecology. He welcomed domestic and overseas talents to join the university and help build ECNU into a world-renowned research-oriented university. Nearly 100 scholars from China, the United States, Canada, France, Sweden, and Australia attended the forum.
The founding ceremony of the Center attracts many teachers and students.
Prof. Zhou Xuhui, Director of the C-GCE, introduced the targets and plans of C-GCE. While gathering the global change researchers of ECNU, C-GCE is open to young researchers in the area from around the world. C-GCE will address key issues related to climate changes including the health of human and ecological systems, ecological safety, water resources, and greenhouse gas emissions. It will closely cooperate with top organizations in the area such as the University of Oklahoma, Michigan State University, CSIRO in Australia, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the National Climate Center. In cooperation with these organizations, it will study the ecological impacts of global change, provide solutions for global change and other related environmental problems. In the meantime, C-GCE will cultivate inter-disciplinary, high-level researchers.
