Tong Shijun meets the delegation.
A Pakistani artists delegation and Pakistani government officials led by the Acting Pakistan Consul General in Shanghai visited East China Normal University on December 11, 2015.
Ten Pakistani artists and four ECNU art teachers held a painting event together. ECNU art teachers painted the school tree of ECNU, a metasequoia. The Parkistan artists painted an amazing portrait of an old Pakistan man under a clear sky. Both the old man and metasequoia--- which is the world’s most ancient tree species --- signifying the ever-lasting friendship between the two countries.

The two parties then exchanged their paintings. At the painting-exchange ceremony, ECNU University Council Chairman Tong Shijun made a welcome speech on behalf of the university. He said that at the beginning of last year, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain named the year 2015 “the year of Sino-Pakistani friendship.” Both “Silk Road” in history and today’s “21st Century Maritime Silk Belt” witnessed the friendship between the two countries. Tong hoped that taking the opportunities of “One Belt, One Road,” the Pakistani artists and ECNU could form a cooperation mechanism, increase art, and humanity exchanges, so as to enhance and pass down the sincere friendship between the two peoples.

In her speech, Farhat Ayesha, Acting Consul General of Pakistan in Shanghai said the number of Pakistani students studying at ECNU were increasing. The Pakistani students actively took part in cultural events and then had a fruitful and meaningful study experience here. She stressed that the exchanges between students would help the young generation of Pakistan better understand China.
ECNU has had close cooperation with Pakistani universities. Twenty-eight Pakistani students are now studying here at ECNU.
