Prof. Tong Shijun, Chairman of ECNU University Council, met Carle Bonafous-Murat, the president of Université Paris III - Sorbonne Nouvelle, and Emmanuel Fraisse, Vice President of the university, on the morning of November 4. Prof. Yuan Xiaoyi, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages also attended the meeting.
Tong welcomed the visitors, briefly introduced ECNU to the delegation, and recalled the co-operations between Université Paris III and ECNU. Prof. Carle Bonafous-murat thanked the warm reception from the ECNU side, he also introduced his university and expressed his wishes of further cooperation between the two universities. The two parties held in-depth discussions on joint postgraduate and doctoral courses in the areas of comparative literature and translation, as well as on short-term exchange programs for students and teachers. They also exchanged thoughts on operation details.

Université Paris III - Sorbonne Nouvelle, also called Sorbonne Nouvelle-Paris 3, tops French universities in languages, literature and social culture. It attracts many domestic and international students thanks to its teaching quality and good reputation. Established in 1970, the university was developed by Sorbonne University. It was named Sorbonne Nouvelle in 1971, to underscore its mission of innovation in higher education and research. The university is part of the Sorbonne Paris Cité, a union of eight Paris universities. Among the 13 public universities in Paris, Université Paris III is best known for languages and film arts.
Université Paris III signed a student exchange deal with ECNU in 2003. Each year, two ECNU students will study in Université Paris III for one year. The Department of Comparative Literature of Université Paris III has close cooperation with the School of Foreign Languages of ECNU. Each year, comparative literature scholars from Université Paris III will give lectures at ECNU.
