Introduction of ECNU museums
ECNU museums joined the Chinese Museum Association in 2014. They are composed of the History Museum (including Ancient Coins Museum and Relics Museum), Biology Museum, and Folk Culture Museum. Geography Museum and Chinese Education Video Museum are under construction. The museums are run by the Museum Management Office.
Ancient Coins Museum and Relics Museum were developed on the basis of the Relics Room of the History Department in 1952. The Ancient Coins Museum collects a rich variety of coins ranging from shell coins, cloths coins, knife coins in the pre-Qin era to bronze coins, iron coins, silver coins and bank notes from history. It has a richer and better collection of ancient coins than any other universities in Shanghai. It is one of the first folk culture museums run by a university in Shanghai. The Relics Museum collects about 5,000 artifacts, including oracle bones and bronze swords with inscription, gilt Buddha statues, pieces of Buddhist scriptures and much more. Its oracle bones have been listed on Oracle Bones Collection compiled by Guo Moruo and Hu Houyi. It has hundreds of bronze mirrors. It also has official uniforms from Ming and Qing dynasties, donated by Prof. Huang Guoxiu, who served as the first curator of the ECNU library.
