China Philharmonic Orchestra holds a concert for ECNU.
The China Philharmonic Orchestra held a concert for ECNU staff and students at the Concert Hall of Minhang campus on the night of October 30, 2015.
The Ministries of education, culture and finance hosted the event, which was organized by the ECNU Office of Cultural Construction and Department of Music. As a move to introduce classic arts into the campus, the event was warmly welcomed by all the staff and students.
Yuan Siqi's excellent skills and elegant manners impresses the audiences.
The concert began with Mozart’s Piano concerto No.20 in D minor. The piano solo was performed by the very famous 14-year-old genius Yuan Siqi. His excellent skills and elegant manners impressed everyone who attended the event. The second piece was Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 “Pathetique” in B minor. To help the audience better understand the music, conductor Xia Xiaotang gave introductions of every piece before every movement.

The audiences gave a thunderous applauses after these two pieces. At the end, the orchestra played a piece of Iranian folk music as an encore. The southeast-Asian style music gave the perfect ending to a perfect concert.

Established in 2000, China Philharmonic Orchestra is a young and vigorous orchestra. In 2009, it was listed as one of the 10 most influential orchestras in the world by British music magazine, Gramophone. It was the first time for a Chinese orchestra to enter the list, which also included Berliner Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic.
