East China Normal University has established a new addition to the university, The Faculty of Economy and Administration. They have created this new addition on the basis of The School of Finance and Statistics, The School of Business, part of The School of Public Administration, The MBA Education Center, and The Academy of International Transport & Logistics. In addition The Academy of Economy and Administration was set up at the same time as the new Faculty of Economy and Administration.

This shift, which came after the recent establishment of The Faculty of Earth Sciences, is aimed at optimizing academic resources and increasing inter-discipline cooperation. On Sept. 15, a ceremony was held at the auditorium of the Yifu Building to celebrate the new faculty members. University leaders Tong Shijun, Yang Changli, Li Zhibin, Wang Rongming, along with other important university officials. Staff from the different schools and organizations that are now part of the new faculty, participated in the ceremony. Vice President of the university, Li Zhibin, hosted the event.
Yang Changli, Vice Chairman of the University Council, announced the establishment of the Faculty of Economy and Administration, the Academy of Economy and Administration, along with the names of faculty officials at these schools. Ren Guohua was appointed Council Chairman of the faculty. Gao Xiangdong became Vice Chairman of the Faculty Council. Zhang Yanhong became Vice Chairwoman of the Faculty Council. Feng Xuegang became Vice Director of the faculty. Lan Faqin became Vice Director of the faculty, as well as director of the faculty’s degree education and training center. Pu Xiaolong became Vice Director of the faculty. The Academy of Economy and Administration was headed by Gao Xiangdong, who will serve as Council Chairman and Executive Vice President, and Zheng Wei’an, who would serve as the President.

Tong Shijun, the Chairman of the University Council, gave a congratulatory speech on behalf of the university. He thanked the faculty and staff for their great contribution, saying that the establishment of the new faculty was an important step for the university’s comprehensive reform and a significant landmark event in the university’s history. With an incredibly strong academic background, ECNU has made phenomenal progress in the social sciences in recent years. Shanghai is growing into a much more scientific and innovative center of the world, due to its incredible global influences, which helps to provide great opportunities for the economic and administration discipline of ECNU. Mr. Tong hopes that the faculty will further improve the quality of education and scientific research, enhance cross-discipline cooperation, and accelerate the process of internationalization. By doing this we hope that the university will better serve not only our country but our city as well.
