2015 EMPDC starts

The convocation ceremony for the Education Master’s Program for Developing Countries is held.

On the morning of Sept. 10, a convocation ceremony for the Education Master’s Program for Developing Countries (EMPDC) was held at Minhang campus of ECNU. Ren Youqun, Vice Chairman of the University Council & Vice President, Liu Beimin, Vice Director of Foreign Economic Cooperation Department of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, Gu Yingyin, assistant to Director of Foreign Economic Cooperation Department of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, attended the ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Peng Liping, Director of the International Center of Teacher Education.

 The program has enrolled 27 scholars from 11 countries this year.

On behalf of the university, Mr. Ren welcomed students from different countries and regions. China and Asian, African and Latin American countries have long been good neighbors and important partners, he said. In recent years, ECNU had academic cooperation and exchanges with University of Dar es Salaam of Tanzania, Addis Ababa University of Ethiopia, University of Jordan, and Saint Thomas University of Chile. Through the program, ECNU hopes to further integrate into the global education field and enhance cooperation with developing countries, he said.

Authorized by the Ministry of Education and funded by the Ministry of Commerce, ECNU began to host the Education Master’s Program for Developing Countries in 2010. So far the program has trained 115 leaders and decision makers for the education fields of 36 Asian, African and Latin American countries. This year, the program enrolled 27 scholars from 11 countries: Ethiopia, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Chad, Liberia, Bahamas, Vanuatu, Grenada, Sri-Lanka and Armenia. They will have a year-long course in China.
