On June 28,2015, Commencement was held on the Zhongbei Campus. This year, each graduate received three special gifts: a copy of the University Newspaper printed with the names of all of this year’s 6,648 graduates, a set of academic gowns with the ECNU logo, and an exquisite Memorial brochure.

At the Commencement ceremony, 392 students, 403 students, 6 teachers, and 5 ECNU employees were awarded honors titled, “Shanghai Excellent Graduates”, “ECNU Excellent Graduates”, “Most Excellent Teachers in Students’ Eyes”, and “Most Lovely Other ECNUers in Graduates’ Eyes”, respectively.

“I can still remember the sunny smiles on your faces when you asked me to take photos with you around campus. Although none of you has ever sent the photos to me, it doesn’t matter! I am very glad to have been part of your background. You have left me with many beautiful memories,” recalled President Chen Qun, reliving details about spending time with students in his Commencement speech.

“On the path of life, you may encounter temptations and challenges,” Chen said to the students. “I hope you can still persist in pursuing your own goals and ideals, even if you face difficulties and setbacks. I hope you can stick to your moral conscience, even if you can find some excuses to forgive yourself. I hope you still hold to your pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty, even if you discover many imperfections in the world along the way.”

According to Chen, ECNU is a university fueled by persistence and the willingness to change. He expressed the hope that all graduates would not only know how to persist, but be willing to change as well. “These important words must be said three times:ECNU will bless you all forever, forever,and forever.” He ended his speech with sincere blessings to all the graduates.

Chen is regarded by students as one of the most popular Presidents in E CN U history. On June 28, he spent three and a half hours taking photos with graduates at the University History Museum after the Commencement ceremony. Taking photos with the University President on Commencement Day has become a must-do for graduates over the pa p st three years.
