Li Lin (Left) and Chen Qun sign a cooperation agreement on behalf of both sides.
To promote cooperation between institutions in Shanghai and implement plans for cultivating elite talents in science and technology, the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences (SIBS), a group within the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and ECNU decided to hold an Elite Class in Biological Sciences. The aim was to explore new methods of selecting and training students who showed great promise, focusing specifically on those whose talents could be cultivated in the field of scientific research.
On April 21, Li Lin, Director of SIBS, visited ECNU. Chen Qun, President of the University, signed a cooperation agreement with Li. Over 30 persons were present at the signing ceremony, including Kong Wei, Directing Assistant of SIBS, and Guo Weilu, Vice President of ECNU.

According to the agreement, the two sides will jointly establish the teaching committee. ECNU will invite experts from SIBS to elicit their help with student enrollment, the formulation of a training plan, and the selection of teachers and mentors. ECNU will employ high-level experts from SIBS to teach their own courses, give lessons to undergraduate students, and guide students in study and research. Moreover, both sides will establish several teams of mentors, each led by an experienced scholar, who will be responsible for preparing courses for the Elite Class.
