Vishal Sikka Appointed Consulting Professor at ECNU

On March 24, Dr. Vishal Sikka, CEO of Infosys, was invited to the unveiling ceremony of the ECNU-RUC-INFOSYS Joint Data Science Lab. He was appointed as a consulting professor at ECNU and gave a speech titled “Human Revolution” at the end of the ceremony.

Before the ceremony, Dr. Vishal Sikka, together with his Infosys colleagues, were greeted by Chen Qun, President of ECNU, and by other members of ECNU’s Institute of Data Science and Engineering. They exchanged views on science education, IT, and future technological developments, and also expressed a willingness to foster cooperation between the fields of Education and IT.

At the appointment ceremony, Tong Shijun, Chairman of ECNU's Unviersity Council, issued the appointment letter to Dr. Vishal Sikka. After expressing his appreciation, Dr. Sikka gave his first speech at ECNU. With a wealth of innovation and enthusiasm, Dr. Sikka provided the audience with a thought-provoking speech.

Based on the notion of collaborative innovation, ECNU established the Center for Cloud Computing and Big Data on June 19th, 2012, with the help of Dr. Sikka. Later, in September 2013, the Institute of Data Science Engineering was born. It was China’s first specialized institute for interdisciplinary research of big data.

Dr. Vishal Sikka is the CEO and MD of Infosys. Prior to joining Infosys, Dr. Vishal Sikka was a member of the Executive Board of SAP AG and the Global Managing Board, leading all SAP products and innovation globally. In his 12 years at SAP, Dr. Sikka led SAP’s portfolio including the breakthrough in-memory platform, SAP HANA, all their applications, cloud and technology solutions. He is credited with accelerating SAP’s development processes, transforming its innovation culture and leading several successful product co-creation initiatives with clients. He is also the creator of the concept of ‘timeless software’, which represents the renewal of products without disruption to customer environments. Sikka left the SAP board in May 2014 for personal reasons, and was announced as CEO and MD of Infosys on June 12, 2014.
