A Calligraphy Corner was established at the United Nations International School on March 16th, 2015, by Professor Zhou Bin, Chairman of Junior United Nations of Calligraphy (“JUNOC”) and Director of China Calligraphy Education and Psychology Center (ECNU). Professor Zhou also donated about 30 precious calligraphy books and a text-book series from JUNOC written by Professor Zhou Bin himself and supported by the United Nations International School (“UNIS”).

The ceremony for the book donation and establishment of the Calligraphy Corner was attended by UNIS representatives including Assistant Executive Director Salvador Uy and Principal Andrew Hand, as well as Deputy Consul General Zhang Meifang and Education Consul Chang Quansheng from the Consulate General of China in New York.
In her speech, Deputy Consul General Zhang Meifang said calligraphy is the essence of the Chinese history and culture, and that learning calligraphy helps to understand the Chinese culture and continue the Chinese tradition and legacy. The Deputy Consul General expressed her congratulations and appreciation to Professor Zhou Bin’s endeavors in calligraphy education and cultural exchange on behalf of the Consulate General of China and Ambassador Zhang Qiyue, pointing out that Professor Zhou Bin has served as a bridge connecting cultural exchange and cooperation between East and West and strengthening mutual understanding and friendship.
The Calligraphy Corner is founded by Zhou Bin.
UNIS Principal Andrew Hand presented a letter of appreciation to Professor Zhou Bin, indicating that the book donation and establishment of the Calligraphy Corner help enhance the school’s cultural diversity and the level of artistic appreciation of UNIS students. Mr. Hand also thanked Professor Zhou Bin for his continued efforts to offer regular calligraphy lectures at UNIS for the past years and organize cultural exchange activities for students including participation in the program of International Day of Peace held by the United Nations.

Junior United Nations of Calligraphy is an international cultural exchange organization supported by the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon who has the written the name JUNIOR UNITED NATIONS OF CALLIGRAPHY using his personal calligraphy style. Through calligraphy and its beautiful lines of expression which belong to the whole mankind, the organization aims to build a bridge of mutual appreciation and mutual understanding and cement friendship and peaceful development of people from different cultures around the world. Junior United Nations of Calligraphy is founded by Professor Zhou Bin of East China Normal University who is also the Director of China Calligraphy Education and Psychology Research Center. The organization has over 100 members from over 40 countries including international diplomats and students, playing a positive role in the cultural diversity and exchange for the UN community.
