ECNU Welcomes New International Students

03/23/2015

Between March 2nd and March 3rd, ECNU warmly welcomed new international students for the spring semester. After registration, more than 800 students from various countries and regions began their new life and experience at ECNU.

Most of the international students came to ECNU as language students. Over the course of these two days, the International Students Office, International College of Chinese Studies, and other related departments and offices of the university provided these students with “One-Stop” services including registration, tuition payment, issuance of a campus card, and so on.

Ren Youqun meets with Giovanni.

Ren Youqun, ECNU’s Vice President & Vice Chairman of the University Council, came to greet the new students and express his desire to be a line of communication for them. He also met with Baffetti Giovanni Battista, an international student from Italy, on March 6th.

Inspired by his father, who has engaged in international trade for years, Giovanni began to learn Chinese when he was 14. In 2010, he competed in CCTV’s “Chinese Bridge” contest, held in Italy. After that, he took part in a summer program at ECNU. Giovanni continued to learn Chinese in his spare time while majoring in Economics at his university. In November 2013, Ren Youqun met Giovanni by chance during his visit to the Confucius Institute in Italy and invited Giovanni to study at ECNU.

According to the International Students Office, festive events such as a campus tour and a welcoming ceremony will be held for these new international students in the following week to give them a taste of their new life at ECNU.
