On March 12th, 14 Chinese Hanban teachers from the Confucius Institute at the University of Central Arkansas (UCACI) received recognition from the State Board of Education within the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE).

At the ADE board meeting, Dr. Frank Servedio, Coordinator of Arkansas’ public school program, introduced the Chinese teachers to the board members, and gave high praise for their contributions to Chinese teaching and cultural exchange in Arkansas. Dr. Zhuang Guo'ou, Director of UCACI, delivered a report to the board members about the UCA Confucius Institute and the Teach Chinese in Arkansas Program. Dr. Zhuang also briefly touched upon the topic of future opportunities for development and cooperation within the Chinese teaching program in Arkansas.
After that, the project director of ADE awarded the teachers “Arkansas Traveler” certificates issued by Governor Asa Hutchinson and Secretary of State Mark Martin, in recognition of Hanban teachers’ efforts to promote and improve cultural exchange and education in Arkansas.

Led by Jane English, an ADE official and a Senator, all of the Chinese teachers were introduced to the state senators while the 90th Legislature was in session. The senators all stood up to applaud the teachers, then shook hands with each of them, giving special thanks to the teachers for their contributions to Arkansas.
Right before the recognition, Li Qiangmin, the Consul General from the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Houston, and Consul of Education Xu Baiyu, paid a special visit to the University of Central Arkansas and UCA’s Confucius Institute. They commended UCACI for its efforts toward Chinese teaching and for providing both cultural activities and exchanges between China and the United States.
