ECNU’s Chorus Troupe and Dance Troupe win prizes atthe 4th National Contest of University Student Art Performances.
On March 2nd, the 4th National Contest of University Student Art Performances lowered its curtain in Tianjin. Over 7,000 students from 435 colleges and universities nationwide participated in this event. Due to their excellent performances, ECNU’s Chorus Troupe and Dance Troupe stood out from among a total of 52 choral troupes and 77 dance troupes across the country, winning the first prize and the second prize in the non-professional team categories respectively.

In an earlier contest in Shanghai, both ECNU troupes won the championship. The dance troupe was also invited to perform at the opening and closing ceremonies of the contest on behalf of the universities and colleges in Shanghai. Weng Tiehui, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, talked with the troupe members after the closing ceremony. She hoped that ECNU would continue to make achievements at the 5th National Contest of University Student Art Performances, to be hosted in Shanghai in three years.
“Field of Hope”presented by the ECNU Dance Troupeportrays amoving story.
“Field of Hope”, the performance presented by the ECNU Dance Troupe, rose from among the over 300 performances. It portrayed a moving story about children in a mountain area who, bearing their mothers’ hope, finally walk out of the mountains for a brighter future. With exquisite dancing skills, the performers presented the story most vividly and profoundly. The performance also appeared at the closing ceremony of the contest.

The two songs performed by the Chorus Troupe of ECNU were “Rippling Brooklet”, known also as “Serenade of the East”, and “La Cucaracha”, a Mexican folksong. To enhance the effect of the performance, the singers designed many unique actions to go with the songs, offering the audience both superior audio and visual enjoyment.
The national contest, hosted once every three years, has become a grand event for college and university art troupes. Since the initiation of the contest, art troupes at ECNU have made outstanding achievements repeatedly. The school’s dance troupe won 2nd prize at the first contest, 1st prize at the second contest, a prize for creative work at the third contest, and 2nd prize at the 4th contest. ECNU’s chorus troupe won 1st prize four times in a row.
