The ground-breaking ceremony for the new Estuarine and Coastal Building is held.
On January 9, 2015, the ground-breaking ceremony for the new Estuarine and Coastal Building was held on the Minhang Campus. Several university leaders, directors of related faculties and departments, as well as teacher representatives attended the ceremony.
Located beside the Zizhuyuan River near the South Gate of the Minhang Campus, the new building will provide teaching and research space for the State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research, the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Urbanization Ecological Restoration and the Key Laboratory of Geographic Information Science. With 34,480 square meters of floor space and a height of 50 meters, the building will cover 11 layers above ground and 1 layer underground, with plans for completion in the first half of 2017.
University leaders, as well as directors of related faculties and departments attend the ceremony.
The new building will provide excellent hardware support for the development of the University’s Faculty of Earth Science and resolve the existing problems caused by the separation of related disciplines on two campuses, thus providing a quality space for the University to optimize the layout and development of disciplines at a higher level.
Participants of the ceremony wave their shovels to help lay the foundation stone for the building.
During the ceremony, Wang Ping, Chairman of the Council of the State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research, read the congratulatory letter sent by Chen Jiyu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a renowned expert in Estuarine and Coastal research. In this letter, Academician Chen recounted the history of the Institute of Estuarine and Coastal Research since its establishment in 1957 and expressed his well-wishes for the development of Estuarine and Coastal research at ECNU.
In the end, President Chen Qun announced the starting of the construction project of the new building. All of the ceremony’s participants waved their shovels to help lay the foundation stone for the building.
