On the morning of January 16, Xiao Lin, Director of the Development Research Center of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government (SDRC), was appointed as an honorary professor of ECNU. The appointment ceremony was held on the Minhang campus.

Wang Rongmin, Vice-President of ECNU, hosted the ceremony and recounted Xiao’s experience and academic achievements. Chen Qun, President of ECNU, presented a letter of appointment as well as the university badge and card to Xiao.
Tong Shijun, Chairman of University Council of ECNU, expressed sincere welcome to Xiao and hoped that he could further promote in-depth cooperation between SDRC and ECNU, thus enhancing development of the related disciplines and areas of the university. Xiao said that he was glad to become a member of ECNU and would fulfill his responsibility as an honorary professor. He would like to enhance the cooperation between SDRC and ECNU and contribute to the development of related disciplines, as well as cultivate talent at the university.

After the ceremony, Xiao gave a lecture titled Research on the Basic Ideas of the 13th Five-Year Plan of Shanghai to core members of the University’s departments and schools, as well as university leaders. In his lecture, he introduced the basic concepts behind Shanghai’s 13th Five-Year Plan, from an assessment of the development during the period of the 12th Five-Year Plan, the development environment, the development objectives and overall ideas as well as major tasks and measures the municipal government will take in the next five years.
Tong spoke highly of Xiao’s report, believing that it would not only help to better understanding about the direction of social and economic development in Shanghai and China, but also guide the making of ECNU’s 13th Five-Year Plan and plans for cultivating talent. In addition, the report would inspire students and teachers to share social responsibilities and rightly choose their own paths for development.
