On the afternoon of January 23, a delegation headed by ECNU President Chen Qun and Cao Wenze,Executive Chairman of ECNU University Council, paid a visit to ECNU alumnus Du Jiahao, Governor and Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee of Hunan Province.
Du welcomed the delegation and expressed his thanks for ECNU's support of Hunan. According to him, Hunan is a major agriculture-based province that has made significant progress in recent years in its effort to expand the scale of agriculture and promote the scientific and technological level and the informatization of agricultural development; Hunan is also a major province of science and education and the provincial Party committee and government have been focusing on raising the region's core competitiveness, transformational development, and the overall quality of the population through the updating of education and the cultivation of specialized personnel. He pointed out that ECNU, as a high-level comprehensive research university, is very strong in talent cultivation and scientific research innovation, and its cooperation with relevant Hunan enterprises in agriculture, such as jointly building the engineering and technical research center and participating in the construction of western Hunan, is of strategic importance. He hoped that both sides could use each other's strengths to realize common development through enhanced exchanges and cooperation and that ECNU could play a more important role in cultivating talented people for Hunan and helping the province with teacher education, discipline construction, the combination among industries, universities and research institutes, and the self-employment of university students.

Chun Qun introduced the current development of ECNU to the Governor. According to him, Hunan is strong in science, technology and education and enjoys a fine environment for innovation and business initiation and the students from Hunan are often outstanding in quality. Since the signing of the strategic cooperation agreement between Hunan and ECNU in 2014, the university and its alumni association in Hunan have made painstaking efforts to materialize the agreement, reaping substantial achievements in the cooperation between the university and Hunan enterprises and in the transformation of scientific and technological results into productive force. In the future, for better cooperation and common development, ECNU would have closer contacts with the government of Hunan at different levels and with the province's universities and enterprises.

During their talk, Du Jiahao recalled his university years at ECNU. He said that he still cherished the beautiful memory of his alma mater and wished to have a chance to pay it a visit. He gladly accepted President Chen's invitation to be a member of the university's advisory commission on development, expressed his willingness to serve the university, and wished the university great success.
Before the talk, ECNU had signed an agreement of cooperation with Hunan Dakang Pasture Farming Co., Ltd. Based on the agreement, both sides will join hands to build the Engineering Research Center of Hunan for Bio-breeding and Gene-editing in the province's Huaihua City, which will engage in the construction of a pig gene bank, the breeding of new animal species, targeted gene editing, etc, in an effort to forge a top platform of development with domestic and even international prestige.
