Chen Qun, President of ECNU and Chairman of ECNU’S Alumni Association, expressed New Year’s well-wishes to the audience, which included alumni of the university from around the world. He said that ECNU belongs to teachers and students, with over three hundred thousand alumni and people who show care and concern about the development of the university. They contribute a lot to the cause of the university, and deserve to share in the glories of ECNU. He hopes that the great love denoted in the saying, “ECNU, campus of love” can become part of the shared beliefs and pursuits of all the audience members and alumni.

Beginning with choral performances of Welcome My Friend and For Whom the Bell Tolls, directed by Ms. Tan Yaru, the concert was permeated with a joyful and festive atmosphere. Brant Shorris, a French Horn soloist, Larrie Jones, a trumpet soloist, and Xia Xiaocao, a well-known violinist, presented Hunter’s Moon, Cradle for Bugler and The Butterfly Lovers to the audience, in succession.

With various forms of performances and integration of both Chinese and western styles, the concert was indeed an auditory and visual feast which was memorable for everyone. The concert concluded with Danzon, directed by Chang Lin, an associate professor from the Music Department. It earned long applause from the audience, who expect an equally excellent performance next year.
