01/08/2015

On December 28, the Final Assessment Meeting of ECNU’s Contribution Award in Teaching was held in Room 431 of the Yifu Building. Consisting of the university’s leaders and experts, the 13-member jury asked nine candidates various questions about their teaching. The candidates were selected through preliminary evaluations around the University.

The Final Assessment Meeting of ECNU’s Contribution Award in Teaching is held.

The issues varied from “What do you think about teaching and research?” to “How do you guide students’ behavior norms through teaching?” to “Does your undergraduate teaching experience have any place of reference for your future work in teaching and daily management?”

In the final round of assessment, every candidate had an 8-minute personal presentation and a 2-minute Q & A. After a fierce competition, Wang Xiaozan (from the School of Physical Education & Health Care) and Zheng Xiaomin (from the School of Geographical Sciences) won the 2014 ECNU Distinguished Contribution Award in Teaching; Wang Jianxin (from the Department of Social Sciences), Liu Yongming (from the Department of Mathematics), Zou Weicheng (from the School of Foreign Languages), Chen Qiming (from the School of Chemistry), Jiang Yong (from the School of Preschool and Special Education), Nie Xinru (from the School of Communication) and Huang Renzhong (from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature) won the 2014 ECNU Excellent Contribution Award in Teaching.

To acknowledge and encourage teachers who make great contributions to students’ training, especially among undergraduates, the University arranged the Teaching Award Contribution for the first time this year. As the top teaching award at ECNU, it consists of the Distinguished Contribution Award in Teaching (with a bonus of 100,000 RMB per person) and the Excellent Contribution Award in Teaching (with a bonus of 50,000 RMB per person). The award will be selected annually in the future.

The jury consisted of members of the Academic Committee, the Teaching Committee, the Teachers’ Development Committee and the Special Committee of the ECNU Teaching Award, as well as other university leaders. All candidates eligible for this year's award had to have taught in classrooms for several years and had to have taught at least 72 hours of undergraduate classes per year.
