On December 5, the finals of the 2014 Overseas Students’ Talent Show, as well as the Closing Ceremony of the 8th International Cultural Festival, were held at Siqun Hall on the Zhongbei Campus. Durkin John Patrick from the United States, out of the 11 contestants, won the Talent Show championship with 9.83 points. Misato Hanasaka from Japan won the “Most Popular Award”.

Yang Changli, Vice Chairman of the University Council, Sun Zhenrong, Vice President, Mahmaisuf Imomov, Chancellor of Tajikistan University for Nationalities, Shodiev Rustamkhon, Director of the Confucius Institute in Tajikistan, and Huang Zhihua, deputy Director of the International Office of ECNU, attended the closing ceremony.

Huang Meixu, Director of the Global Education Center at ECNU, expressed in her address that the talent show had provided a platform to promote international cultural exchanges through performances by students from various counties.

At the Talent Show, Gao Xiaodong, Dean of ECNU’s Department of Music, Liang Yan, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute of Turin, Italy and Bao Wenying from International College of Chinese Studies, acted as the judges. The overseas students’ varied performances included singing, African dance, and beat-boxing with an impromptu Hip Hop dance, which earned great applause from the audience.
The 8th International Cultural Festival has lasted for about a month in November with a series of cultural activities including the Overseas Students’ Talent Show, the Malaysian Students’ Night, the Movie Show, overseas students’ football games, etc.
