On Nov. 28, the first joint workshop forECNU Circle and ECNU English Website was held at the School of Foreign Languages. It featured a lecture on interview skills in news reporting given by Ms. Xu Xiaomin, Associate Chief Editor ofChina DailyShanghai Bureau. Together with Ms. Xu, other seasoned editors and staff fromChina Dailyalso attended the lecture.
The workshop started with a brief introduction of theECNU Circle, ECNU English Website andChina Daily. It was then followed by the lecture on interview skills of reporters. Xu drew a brief outline about the techniques frequently used in interviewing, including questioning and note taking. "Interviewing, ideally, is just getting information through talking, "Xu said.
Then she gave further explanation on how to apply the questioning techniques in an interview through a video clip of Chai Jing, a famous Chinese journalist, interviewing Jet Li. Jet Li is called "an emperor of Kung Fu" and is also the founder of The One Foundation, an independent public fundraising foundation in China.
At the Q & A session, Xu kindly take all the questions from the reporters and editors present and shared with themher working experiences as a journalist and her tips on news reporting.
